    American Stock Exchange (AMEX)
    The AMEX is a powerful stock market exchange company that got its start dating back to 1790.  Now with New York Stock Exchange acquisition of AMEX, it is the third largest U.S. option marketplace.  The AMEX is located in New York City, and use to be a tough competitor to the NYSE.  The AMEX conducts business on what is known as the centralized trading floor.  The AMEX is also known for trading outside the building on the street curbs, this is how it received the name, “curb market” (NYSE.com).
    The AMEX offers exchange traded funds (EFT’S) and cash equities and serves as a leading venue for listing and traded closed-end funds.  The AMEX serves both listed corporations and investors alike.  Through the use of AMEX investors and corporations can invest in the stock market by buying and selling.  The AMEX is one of the headquarters for equitable financial trading.   
    NASDAQ
    The National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations System is also known as the NASDAQ.  The NASDAQ is a computerized stock trading system that is made up of a large number of market makers that facilitates trading.  All trading is done over a network of computers and telephones (Investorwords.com).  All transactions are done and executed electronically.  The NASDAQ is the largest electronic stock market in the U.S. that executes securities trades.    Between the NASDAQ and the OTC, the NASDAQ accounts for the majority of all shares traded in the U.S. market.
