World Economic Forum Review
The World Economic Forum was recently held in Davos, Switzerland and there was much to say in the conferences with regards to globalization. The idea of globalization is a vast concept with many different perceptions. Throughout the conferences, countries from all over the world were able to give their thoughts on globalization to help everyone see the different perspectives from around the globe. Political and economic leaders also had the opportunity to address the uncertainty of the world markets.
Some of the more important key factors that were discussed in regards to globalization opened up when Pankaj Ghemawat of Spain stated that “…a more sophisticated understanding of the implications of globalization is needed than that encompassed in phrases such as ‘the world is flat.’” This claim allowed other leaders to explain their perspectives of globalization and opened the floor for debate. One of the views that seemed to ring true throughout the conference had to deal with the diminishing influence of the United States on the rest of the world. Many countries stated that they had to “…re-examine the necessity of following the American model of globalization.” Leaders continued to argue that although the United States has been a guideline for many countries on how to adapt into the changing world that included globalization, it was time for these countries to move away from US policies and for them to adapt their own.
