MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: Dabur India, after two years of scouting for acquisitions in fast moving consumer goods space, is close to signing a deal with

the privately held Balsara Home Products, to buy out the latter for close to Rs 185 crore, industry sources said.
When contacted, Dabur's group director, PD Narang, denied that the deal to acquire Balsara has been pegged at around Rs 185 crore. "We are in talks to acquire Balsara Home Products. "We have been talking to several players, and our acquisition plans will be announced later this week, subject to the board's approval" he said. Sources, said Dabur will announce the deal on Thursday.
Last Friday, Dabur officials had denied a Times of India query, that a acquisition was in the offing. Balsara has close to Rs 35 crore debt on the books.
The Balsara acquisition will add 7 more brands to Dabur's portfolio. These include Promise, Babool and Odomos. Close to 60% of the Rs 210-crore Balsara's sales are accounted for by toothpaste brands Promise, Babool and Meswak. Dabur's presence in the oral care business is currently restricted to Dabur Red toothpaste and toothpowder.
Other Balsara products are Odopic liquid, Sani Fresh toilet cleaner.
