Some form of a dashboard is required to allow status checks and overall project performance.
An open environment will help everyone be aware of specifics such as the project goals and objectives, the project timeline, and will also help reinforce the presentation of the overall project plan and scope at the initial kickoff meeting. Information such as this should be readily available within whatever PM software is used to facilitate focused information communication storage.
Technical challenges should be considered when developing an interactive online collaboration site. Additional risks should not be added to the overall project by doing so. The end should justify the means. Simplicity and clarity are key.
