Introduction.
Music has been an integral part of human life since the early ages. An important aspect of culture is art and music. A transition from live performances by artisans to recording and replaying music was seen very early in the 19th century with the advent of recording technologies. Although live performances are still sought after but with the availability of newer technology all forms of music has reached a mass audience. One of the most important developments in this field has been the invention of Digital Media Players (DMP-MP3/MP4 players). An MP3/MP4 player allows the consumers to store their favorite music/videos in the player and listen/watch at their own will.
According to Mintel reports-iPod generation-UK- April 2007, South Korean Saehan Information Systems created the very first digital audio in 1997. The first mass-market player was launched in the US (Rio PMP 300) in 1998. In the year 2000 Sony became the first major labels to sell music online, with 'The Store’. Year 2001 saw the launch of Apple’s iPod and in 2003 Apple opened the online music store iTunes. Apple launched its MP4 player, the video iPod in 2005. Entering the Digital Media Player (DMP) market, Microsoft launched its MP3/MP4 player Zune and the online music store Zune Marketplace in 2006.
