The Effects on Adopting TQM for Chinese Enterprises
With the intensifying of competitions between enterprises, quite many of them have adopted Total Quality Management (TQM) to strengthen their competitive power. There are some successful precedents in the western countries such as General Electrics, General System Company, Ford Motor Company. However, for Chinese enterprises, adopting TQM cannot dominate the Chinese businesses whether they will succeed internationally. Although Chinese enterprises can benefit from TQM, more drawbacks exist.
To a certain extent, TQM has brought many benefits for Chinese enterprises. TQM is a kind of concept that involves every aspect and everyone to get everything well in an organization. It aims at enhancing customers’ satisfaction, guaranteeing zero defects and keeping continual improvement. TQM helps Chinese enterprises improve the quality of their products. Many Chinese enterprises gain more profits via TQM. Facing the severe challenges, TQM enable Chinese enterprises to seize more opportunities.
However, the drawbacks of TQM for Chinese enterprises are more prominent. Successful introduction of TQM might be difficult for Chinese enterprises. Above all, TQM is an abstract concept, not a tangible quality control system. It has no detailed stipulations for an enterprise to follow. One enterprise should not only make the regulations and standards itself to meet its needs but also accumulating experiences in practice. In addition, the father of TQM is an American, Armand V.
