TEAMWORK The Industrial Revolution begun in the 1700s and it cause drastic changes in the common model for daily business. Mass assembly machinery and techniques developed in 1900s increased the productivity of the staff. The Industrial age reached its apex with the development of scientific management. There were attempts to optimize the productivity of organization by assigning minute tasks to individual members. Then, World War II left world into ruins, but was suddenly rebuilt and fiercely competitive. Many countries were experimenting with new models for large organizations. This process restored the focus to the forgotten; basic unit of operations – the workgroup or team. A team differs from a working group in that it is task oriented and consists of people with different, but complementary, knowledge and skills. Team members work with one another to achieve their goals and direct their activities towards helping the other team members, too, to work towards the common team goal. The contributions of individuals in team are complementary to one another, whereas in a group the members are largely interchangeable. Teams can take many different forms and serve many different functions, let us see some of the different types of teams which can be found in organizations. Production or Service teams – These teams are actively involved in manufacturing, production or service. These are mostly self managing teams.
