SITE VISIT REPORT – MUSEUM OF BRISBANE
1. Museum of Brisbane is a part of Brisbane City Council, created to supply the need of a documentation of the people living in Brisbane. The museum has been open since October 2003 and is a social history museum that emphasizes the past, present and future life of Brisbane(About us, The Museum of Brisbane’s homepage 2008). The organization is non-profitable and pertain the “Your Brisbane” strategy of Brisbane City Council, which for example has as a goal to foster social and cultural wellbeing. The Brisbane City Council also intend to increase the customer focus throughout their sections, by growing engagement, service delivery and make their activities more responsive (Brisbane City Council 2007).
The museum is situated in one of Australia’s fastest growing regions, with an increasing population of a million (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2008). Brisbane inhabitants are multicultural, with as many as 24 % born in another country (Brisbane City Council 2007). The population demographics are also changing, with a new generation entering the costumer market. Besides, the Australian population is growing older. (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2007)
In complacently four years 1 500 000 persons have visited the attraction (About us, Museum of Brisbane’s Homepage 2008). A purpose of the museum is to interact with Brisbanes inhabitants and emphasize heritage, history and people (Brisbane City Council 2006). The Museum world is changing as the surroundings are, new trends and distribution channels are being developed. Nowadays, the duties of a museum is to offer an experience and to entertain as well as educate as Rentschler, Hede & White mentions (2007, p.163).
