Socrates

To completely comprehend philosophy you must take a step back and center yourself. To do this you have to be able to leave all prior beliefs at the door and become a blank canvas. Once you have been successful in doing so then your mind will be better equip to fully experience an ancient thinking process we still, as a society, use today. Philosophy in the one of the unique subjects that you come across in life with no right or wrong answer; More less it is a way to try and find a moral excellence within yourself. Although today we are able to question our doubts without fearing for our life; this freedom many men have fought for throughout history, the original being Socrates. He defended what he believed until his own countrymen martyred him for doing so, for this he went down in history. When reading one of his most famous pieces “The Apology” I found myself torn because I could not grasp the mind-set of the Athenian men who sentences him to death. Although the way Socrates thought process shown a different kind of light on things than the masses were used to seeing; the only negative to come of it was his own demise. Throughout this paper I will attempt to explain the thought process of Socrates and my own interpretation of it.
    “Socrates believes that philosophy (literally the love of wisdom) is the search for knowledge of the nature of the virtues.” This being one of his main personal goals, he sought out his morals through questioning himself in different situations and once he found them he refused to let them fade away. He did this by going out and asking the men of Athens how they knew what they did. When they couldn’t answer anymore of his questioning he tried to explain why they were so lost in the conversation thus making more enemies ...
