Role of Team Leader
Individuals within a team all have unique skills and strengths. It is only when the contributions of all team members are valued that teams will function efficiently.
A leader is the one who has the ability to negotiate, communicate, influence and persuade others to do things and a team leader is the one who can competently organize the cooperation and assistance of other people to accomplish goals and objectives.
One thing for sure is leaders are made, not born. He/she has to learn to become a leader by doing what other leaders have done before him/her. A leader has to become proficient in his job or skill, and then has to become proficient at understanding the motivations and behaviors of other team members. As a leader, he has to combine his personal competencies with the competencies of others into a smoothly functioning team that can outplay and outperform all its competitors.
A team leader, even if the team consists of only one person, he must immediately develop a whole new set of leadership skills. To determine what these skills are, he needs to consider the genesis of high-performing teams.
Leaders can see the big picture. They are absolutely clear about what they want to accomplish and what it will look like. They have the ability to articulate this vision in the minds and hearts of others and to get everyone, no matter what their background or personality, working together in harmony toward the realization of that vision.
