Research Design And Statistics Concepts Worksheet

There are three major criteria for evaluating a measurement tool: validity, reliability, and practicality.    During the executive board meeting, Bea Hansen asked questions regarding the sample size, periods in which the data was collected, how the data was collected. By evaluating the criteria in measuring the data, the statistics can represent the population in general.    • Validity refers to the extent to which a test measures what we actually wish to measure.• Reliability has to do with the accuracy and precision of a measurement procedure.• Practicality is concerned with a wide range of factors of economy, convenience, and interpretability. If sound measurements are not used then the information is useless. Bea Hansen asked the questions to verify the statistical data being provided, because understanding the sources will provide the validity, reliability and practicality of the data. (Cooper  & Schindler, 2003, p 231)
Stratified Random Sampling    When a population can be clearly divided into groups based on some characteristic, then stratified random sampling can be used to guarantee that each group is represented in the sample.        Jim Wilson and his team used focus groups of small business owners to identify an opportunity and a need analysis of small business clients in the use of a credit card with a reward program.. (Lind, Marchal & Wathen, 2004, p 254)
Predictive study     If we can provide a plausible explanation for an event after it has occurred, it is desirable to be able to predict when and in what situations the event will occur ...
