How would you respond in a situation similar to those Erica, Laura, and Sam faced?
Erica: Promotion
In this situation, I would review my current schedule and see where I could maximize my time more effectively to accommodate my new workload as well as my courses. I would also utilize the time management resources provided
Laura: Technical difficulty
If I were Laura, I would contact Learner Support as soon as possible and explain the situation to them. I would discuss a plan to ensure that my professor is also aware of the situation and receives all assignments due.
Sam: Family Emergency
In the event of a family emergency I would contact Learner Support immediately and inform them that I have a family emergency and I will need some time off to deal with it. I would also provide a time that I will be able to complete and submit all assignments due.
• What steps can you take ahead of time to prepare for unexpected situations such as these?
In Erica’s situation, I would have monitored my schedule more closely. By having a better idea of how my time was spent, I would be more prepared to take on more responsibility if rewarded with a promotion.
If I were Laura, I would have documented the professor’s contact information in another location in the event that my computer crashed or my power goes out. By doing this, I would be able to contact the professor directly and save a little more time.
If I were in the same situation as Sam, I would have made sure to pack my laptop and notify my Academic Advisor as well as my professor immediately and let them know the situation.
