For any organization operating within a competitive industry, effective job performance from its employees increases its organizational capability to compete, produce, profit, and grow.  According to Dreher and Dougherty, “job performance (or any desired behavior) will likely be most effective when the employee’s temperament, preferences, and expectations are congruent with the organization’s reward system (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001).”  Re-designing an organization’s current reward system is therefore, an attempt to fulfill the needs and expectations of its employees, while striving to increase motivation and morale, decrease job dissatisfaction and benefiting the overall effort and performance of the organization.   Since human capital is a valuable resource to an organization and performance is key, the need to motivate employees through proper reward systems becomes the focus of any HR system.  
In order to properly access the situation and develop a successful reward system, a proper problem-based analysis will be needed for an organization to reveal all possible solutions, so that it may implement an optimal solution that is for the overall good of the organization.
