Problem Solution: Global Communications
Introduction
This paper will take a look at challenges within Global Communications. The scenario in our course has been studied and supplemented by references from textbooks. Global Communications situation has also been compared to those faced by well-known company’s in the business arena.
I have used the knowledge I have gained from all six weeks of the course to formulate this paper. I have used concepts from reading and the scenarios to formulate my solution for the challenges faced by Global Communications.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
The main issue is the conflict arising from the negotiations between Global Communications and the Technologies Workers Union. The union workers seem to be treated as easily replaceable labor. There seems to be little regard placed on their value to the company and their needs as individuals. They stand to lose 1,000 jobs if the negotiations are handled poorly. The union has already suffered loss of benefits. Now they are being asked to give even more on top of lot benefits and a huge layoff.
GC needs to take an opportunity to rethink their plan. If they would have brought the union in earlier they could have controlled the situation better. The union already knew most of the proposals before the meeting. GC should take measures to avoid the leakage of such potentially explosive information.
GC faces legal action from the union. They believe the plan being negotiated by GC is unethical and they were not treated fairly. GC looked at the union as an entity they could shift around and use as they pleased. They should have looked at them as a partner. The union represents the employee’ ...
