Tips for the Selection Process
One internal way that I recommend to recruit for a Project Manager would be an online job posting system. The advantage for choosing an online job posting system or any internal recruiting is that the organization benefits. As stated in Managing Human Resources by George Bohlander, “an organization can capitalize on the investment it has made in recruiting, selecting, training and development its current employees” (Bohlander, 2004). Though employee records, history and performance reviews, a future employer can distinguish if the employee is qualified. A disadvantage for an internal recruiting would be that some middle and upper level positions cannot be filled from within and must be filled from outside sources. This internal recruiting method may need to consider an experienced persons expertise from the outside. A Project Manager from an outside company can bring in new ideas with a fresh start. If we decided to hire within, some corporations lack the ‘new ideas’ and there is a risk of employee cloning (Bohlander, 2004).
One external way that I have chosen to recruit a Project Manager would be is Internet recruiting. Internet recruiting has many advantages. According to Managing Human Resources, “96 percent of all job seekers use the Internet” when looking for a job (Bohlander, 2004). This is great exposure to what you are looking for in an employee. Using the internet is a much cheaper, faster, and more effective when looking for a specific position; a great advantage.
