Palestine was the place where Christianity first appeared and this area constantly went under a time if unrest. It was desired mostly for its trade routes that linked Egypt with Mesopotamia and parts of Asia. Judaism was put up against Hellenism, as the Romans wanted a religion that allowed more than one god. The less conservative Jews, the Pharisees, were more available for the disciples to spread the gospel, where as the Sadducees were not. After the destruction of the temple, the Pharisees were better able to thrive thus providing the early stages of Christianity. Because the Sadducees were traditional and lawful in their worship, the temple was the center of their worship.
With the introduction of the Diaspora Judaism, this gave the church the “Greek translation of the Old Testament” , as well as the translation for the New Testament. Due to the dispersion of Jews into the eastern and western wings during the Roman Empire, this allowed the Greek translation or also “called the Septuagint” , to survive.
Because of the unity the Roman Empire wanted, it allowed Christians the ability to travel freely across the area and even into new regions. Due to Jews and Christians views of there being only true God, they were persecuted because it went against the Romans idea of having many gods. They were seen as “fanatics” and they “must be removed for the good of society.” The real persecution came from the Romans commanded that everyone must worship the emperor.
