Pow 15

Colin Belinger math 8-3 05%13%02 Pow 15 The King has more gold now then before and he has split all of his gold into 12 different bags. There's a rumor that one of the kings trusted caretakers for his gold is rumored to be making counterfeit gold. He wants to know two things = what bag weighed different from the others and was the bag lighter or heavier. The mathematician said that they could find who the counterfeiter is in three weightings, Can you? I started with my weighed *. I then started to put the in different size groups like in 3 groups of 4 or 4 groups of 3. I tried to do different kinds of ways like measuring this group with that group. I got stuck trying to find a way technique were I could do it in 3 weighing I tried many times to get three but I could never do it. I used these kinds of drawings= * I First put them in groups of 4's then I started weighing. What I got was 4 weighing. The way I got it was it weighed 1,2,3, and 4 with 5,6,7, and 8 and if there the same then i measure 9, 10 with 11 and if there the same then i know that 11 is heavier or 9 and 10 is lighter so i would weigh 11 with 1 because i know that 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, and 8 are all good. So if i weighed 1 with 11 and 11 is heavier i know that 11 is the counterfeiter. If there the same then i know that its lighter 9 or 10 so i would weigh 1 with 9 and if there the same then 10's counterfeit or if its heavier or lighter i know its 9. If i weighed 1,2,3, and 4 with 5,6,7, and 8 and 1,2,3, and 4 were lighter i would weigh 1 and 2 with 9 because i know that 9- 12 are all good. Then I follow the earlier process. Then if it goes the other way it you do that same process. I thought that this was definitely the hardest POW so far this year. It was for sure educationally worthwhile. I learned the even te ...
