OUTSOURCING IN AMERICA
Abstract
Outsourcing in America has been growing at a rapid pace since 1990 and has been a heated discussion among all U.S. citizens. I will be evaluating the positions of the outsourcing industry within the United States and the incentives offered in turn to the countries which are outsourced to. Is America now competing with countries that can do the same job at a fraction of the cost? In some instances, yes, but this may be an opportunity for the United States to capitalize. This paper will analyze both sides of the outsourcing industry and will further define the term known as “outsourcing”.
Outsourcing in the United States is defined as taking internal company functions and paying an outside firm to handle them. The most common functions to outsource are services such as accounting, payroll, information systems, sales, marketing, and human resources. Outsourcing has become increasingly popular and today, it is surprisingly common. This paper will target what exactly outsourcing brings to the future of our work force in the United States. To begin, companies that choose to outsource can be easily confused with temporary employment services. Genuine outsourcing services maintain regular full-time professionals that develop working relationships and operate as an extension of their clients companies.
