Our Purpose in Life

When discussing the issue of our purpose in life, generally most non-Muslims can be split into two camps. The first group will explain that their purpose in life is whatever they have made their goals to be: "The purpose of my life is to become rich and famous; to become a doctor; to fall in love and get married etc?"

The second group will generally say that ones' purpose in life will be discovered when their time has ended. God almighty will give them this mysterious secret when they meet in heaven and until then us human beings should wonder lost in this great world trying to work it out for ourselves.

Muslims do not hold this uncertainty. We do not need to work it out ourselves or make our purpose of existence something we desire and when that desire changes or fails we turn to something else. Our Creator, God almighty has clearly stated in the final revelation (The Qur'an) what our purpose of creation is and what our purpose in life is, therefore making true goals and aspirations easy.

God almighty has stated that the creation of the heavens, the earth and all that they contain was not for jest: "We created not the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for a (mere) play." (21:16)

And He almighty said: "And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone)." (51:56)

These verses of the Noble Qur'an where revealed to us by God almighty, through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad in order to inform all of mankind of why we have been placed here on the Earth. With these verses, God explains to us of what we should be doing and where we are heading as a creation of the Creator.
