In most businesses there are three levels of management: strategic managers, tactical managers and operational managers. (Mejia, Balkin. 2002). Strategic managers implement plans that manage the entire company. Tactical managers are considered middle management that communicates the decisions of the strategic managers. Operational managers are the last of the three managers who are responsible for linking all three managers together. Although the operational managers are at the bottom of the totem pole, they are the most important to the entire operation because under this management the production of the company is created. When considering managing and what makes good management effective, various concepts are to be put in place. Management in relationship to people is like organization to implement an idea. Excellent skill sets and intuition are needed for a good manager to be effective. There has to be commitment, focus, and an understanding of what needs to be done so that production can operate with minimum interruptions.
Kathy Kudler did not set out to be a good manager but ended up doing so because she saw a need and was able to fulfill her love of gourmet cooking. Kudler was the vice president of marketing for a large defense contractor; with the busy career she found it hard to get all the things that she needed to make a gourmet meal. That led her to coming up with an idea to create a store that allows one to get all the items needed for a premier gourmet meal in one location.
