Data can be used to for a variety of different reasons. There are many different methods used to for the collection of data. Five of these are personal interview surveys, telephone surveys, cluster sampling, observational study, and experimental study.  Personal interview surveys are performed when the desired sample consists of respondents in a very specific target population. This type of survey is up close and the interviewer has the advantage ask a series of extensive questions to the respondent about a specific subject (a movie, product or service). The interview can also observe the individual or group behavior and information can be easily exchanged between the interviewer and the individual (Knowledge Base, 2007). There are several disadvantages of this type of survey. One is that the interviewer could be biased in his or her selection of respondents. This type of survey is very costly and the person conducting the interview must be proficient in asking questions and recording responses (Bluman, 2008).  Telephone surveystend to be less costly than personal interview surveys. Telephone surveys involve a systematic approach of collecting data from a sample population using a standardized questionnaire (Responsive Management, 2008). Telephone numbers are used to contact people to get their opinions on particular subjects.
