Delegation is the assignment of authority and responsibility to a subordinate at a lower- level. (https://ecampus.phoenix.edu/secure/resource/resource.asp)
Delegation is also defined as: Getting work done through others or as directing the performance of one or more people to accomplish organization goals (Managing & Leading: Concepts, 1997, p. 146).
Delegation is working with employees to establish goals and to grant them authorization to carry out these goals. Some people use delegation to get out of doing work. When delegation is used effectively assistant frees up upper management to concentrate on other projects. Managers often feel that if they delegate to others, they are losing
control of Communication is a key factor of successful delegation. People are afraid to give up control or struggle to have confidence in others. "The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them while they do it." ?Theodore Roosevelt.
Delegation can be a major challenge because some people believe in doing the job them self rather than asking for help. When delegating a responsibility, it does not have to be done as well as he could do the job, but only as well as needed. Try not to be judgmental of the outcome, be fare.  Find the suitable person to delegate the responsibility.  Prepare the person by explaining what need to be done clearly and make sure that the person has the necessary authority to do the job. Stay in tough with the person for support and progress and when the job is done do not for get to acknowledge and praise." Source: Contract Journal, 11/2/2005, Vol. 430 Issue 6549, p55- ...
