The United States Military

Prior to the 1787 Constitutional Convention, each colony in what would become the United States of America had their own commission of military volunteers (Britannica.com).  Over time, war and technology forced the United States Military to transform volunteers through training and development to better protect the country. Thus, the United States (U.S.) Military has become experts in the area.  For starters, those wishing to become a member of the U.S. military must take an entrance exam, the ASVAB.  The results of that test determine which branch of the military one is eligible for (Allen 2008). Once that branch is determined, new recruits are sent to boot camp where they are physically and mentally broken down and then conditioned to work and think as a team vs. as an individual.  The ASVAB test also dictates the area in which that individual would be well suited such as mechanics, avionics, special operations, etc. (Anderson 2008).  After an area is selected, training and development is administered in class room settings, online, and on-the-job.  An individual’s career path is almost entirely based on the results of one test.  Training records are kept and qualifying skills are needed for advancement.  Due to the fact that government employees sign contracts and are often required to reenlist for job advancement and training, their training and development program differs greatly from what InterClean is able to do.  Unlike corporate or traditional civilian training and development programs, there is no room for failure in the military.
