Janet Meredith (a public relations practitioner) and Donna Holsan (an editor and audio recorder) are the creators of Comfort in the Night, an emotional aid for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer and are now fighting the battle with the disease. The product was first brainstormed in 1990 by the two partners as they felt that cancer patients were not getting the required emotional support they needed from family, friends and their health care facilities as well. The product itself is tapes designed to comfort the patient emotionally. The very first tape was created by Janet as she went to visit her aunt who was fighting cancer. Her aunt had explained to Janet that she was not getting the emotional support that she needed and that she did not want to burden her family with her problems. This had sparked Janet to record a cassette tape with research from the local library, the church and other useful resources. The tape had been encompassed with little sayings, church music, and different ways of coping with the pain. Once her aunt had received the tape she said that it was her “companion throughout the lonely evening hours, and helped her get through the night.” This micro success had sparked Janet into creating a business venture with her partner Donna. The product itself was of very high quality, the best in its market, and had received many endorsements from well known practitioners as well as cancer clinics not only in Canada but also the United States.
