Jeffries Hardwood Flooring

Can the current manufacturing operation produce 5000 sqft (or 2500, 4¡¯x 5-3/4¡± boards) of tri laminating Flooring per month? Why or why not?

Assumption: 8 Working Hours per Day, 5 Working Days per Month

Terms Used:
Boards = (4 feet by 5-3/4 inch)
Min = Minute     Ft = Feet
CP = Capacity of a work station
HRS = Hours

CP1-Cutting of Lumber from Table Saw: 10 ft/ min ¡ú 600ft/ hr
600ft / 12ft = 50 (12 ft boards) ¡ú 50*3 pieces per twelve feet board = 150 Boards
150 boards/hr
1200 boards/day

*NOTE: As Jeffries want to achieve a goal of selling 5000 square feet of Hardwood Flooring per month, he would want to determine whether or not his current manufacturing unit has that capacity. The Surface Area per board is 2 square feet, so the Number of Boards that would make a total of 5000 sqft would be 5000/2 = 2500 Boards.

Hrs for cutting 2500 Boards: 150 boards / hr ¡ú 2500/150 = 16.67
16.67 hrs for 2500 Boards,      ¡úDays = 16.67/8 = 2.08 days
2.08 Days

CP2 - Cutting by Radial Arm Saw: 3600 Cuts / Day ¡ú 2 Cuts per board of 12 ft as it has to cut one small board equal to: 4 feet by 5-3/4 inch. If there are 3600 cuts, then 3600/2 = 1800 boards of 12ft. With 3 pieces coming out of 4¡¯ 5-3/4¡± ¡ú 1800*3= 5400 Boards/ Day
675 boards/hr

Hrs for cutting 2500 Boards: 675 boards / hr ¡ú 2500/675= 3.7hrs
3.7 hours for 2500 boards¡¯         ¡ú Days= 3.7/8 = 0.46 days
0.46 Days
CP3 - Planning: 12ft/min = 3 boards/min ¡ú 180 boards/hr ¡ú 1440/day
Hrs for planning 2500 boards: 180 boards/hr ¡ú 2500/180= 13.88hrs
13.88 hrs for 2500 boards;      ...
