Assignment – Introduction

In this first assignment I would like you to do some “thinking” about marketing.

•    What do you think is involved in “marketing”?

•    Do you think companies create needs (or wants) and then try to persuade consumers to buy goods and services they didn’t know about earlier? If so, what is your opinion about that?

•    Refer to p. 9 of the text, figure 1-2, the “environmental forces”.  What factors do you believe affect the organization for which you work? How do you believe they impact your company? If you are not presently employed, and are a full time student, you can answer this question for the school which you attend – the same issues apply!

•    What customer “needs” or “wants” do you believe are satisfied by the products or services your company provides?

•    What new products has your company introduced recently to satisfy a newly discovered need?

•    What kind of marketing activities are utilized by the company for which you work?  Identify the industry the company is in, or the specific company for which you work, if you are comfortable with providing that information. If you are a full time student, identify the marketing activities used by your institution – once again, the same principles apply!

This assignment will be submitted via the Discussion Board part of the course.  Although it counts as an assignment, I would like you to talk to one another about these questions, and get to know one another via this assignment.
