Why does Arla find itself in this situation? Arla products were boycotted by some of the Middle East countries as it was a Danish product and there were some controversies relatedto a documentary film by the Dutch member of Parliament called “Submission”. This film intentionally provoked some Muslims by showing a women in a semi transparent burqa who wasabused. Soon after that there was a Danish Author who published a book which had cartoon picturesof Muhammad. The graphical depictions of Muhammad were considered blasphemous by many Muslims and to show their disapproval of Muhammad cartoons Muslims in Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries boycotted Danish products and Arla was one of the Danish products which had maximum dairy products sales in Middle East countries. What are the major issues or tensions that are raised in this case? What is your viewpoint about these tensions? There were broad geopolitical, religious, economicaland historical tensions involved in this case which caused major societal issues. Arla Foods which is a huge dairy giant got affected by the series of caricatures of the ProphetMuhammad published in the Danish newspaper. Arla foods learnt a hard lesson about religion and commerce. Their annual sales in the Middle East dropped virtually and lead to boycotting of their products. Middle Eastern countries boycotted the Danish products as this issue became an international controversy. My point of view regarding this issue is there was a cross political and religious differences involved in the thoughts of people from different religion.
