Riordan Manufacturing Business Systems
In 1868 John Wesley Hyatt became the first to inject hot celluloid into a mold, producing billiard balls, and the plastic industry was born (Bryce, 1998). Since that time the plastics industry has become a multi-billion dollar industry, with 32% of all plastics, by weight, processed by injection molding (Injection Molding Resource, 2008). Riordan Manufacturing, as an industry leader in using polymers and identifying industry trends, desires to remain competitive in the changing technological and global landscape by analyzing its business and operations systems as a basis for a systems plan to improve management. In this paper we will identify and summarize the business systems and subsystems that Riordan Manufacturing needs for effective management. We will describe existing systems, identify gaps and challenges, and discuss the interrelationships between systems. This is not a comprehensive view.
