INTRODUCTION

The aim of this assignment is to explain how leadership theories deal with the role and factors of each individual, their characteristics, leadership style, power and context as well as to analyse efficient and inefficient leadership styles used.

ROLE OF FACTORS

Characteristics

Over a period of time, each individual manager shows a pattern of behaviour which defines the leadership style he uses in carrying out his role. Therefore it can be assumed that employees will work harder for managers who employ certain styles.

Personal characteristics of each manager/leader play a significant role in the style which will be selected depending on the given situation and abilities held.

Most common factors are personal characteristics and leader competence. These are personal factors which contribute to the uniqueness of an individual like personality, knowledge, skills and ability, experience, prejudice and bias. Leader competence refers to the speed and accuracy of an individual of which they assess situations or identify opportunities and solutions.

A leader’s subordinate group will have a direct effect on the leadership style chosen. Two of these are their skill level and characteristics of the follower group.
