1. Executive Summary
This report focus on the theory that how cereals affect overweight and obese children. As many studies found out that the media have strong affect to the children choices and preferences so this can lead to unhealthy consuming habit of the children in the present day. Finally, the media can be one of the factors that causes children’s overweight and obese due to the high calories of the advertised foods, including cereals.
The possible new theories partly focus and concern on the topic of consuming pattern of the children and their parents who always have strong impact on selecting their children’s choices, especially the food choice. The study found that there are no correlation between price and quality of the cereal. Moreover, the price has no significant differences between the choices of cereal consuming among children from higher and lower socioeconomic school.
The next topic found that majority of the parents respond that their children consume cereal seven times over the last seven days and most of the parents tend to respond that their children eat healthy cereal or the brands they believe that it is healthy. According to this, the test of the nutritional data in the cereal was conducted. Finally, the conclusion of this topic is cereals contain high calories than most of other healthy traditional foods. Therefore, having cereals everyday or regularly is not actually good for the children and somehow can make children get overweight due to the high calories and high level of sugar contained in the cereal, especially cereal that target children as the primary market such as Froot Loops or Coco Pops.
