Hinduism

Hinduism  Erica McClellan  University of Phoenix  Hum 130 World Religion  Auslyn Nieto  December 1, 2008  Hinduism is a religion that is practiced around the world. Many people that practice this religion have different beliefs about the Hinduism religion. People that practice the Hindu religion believe that there are many gods that they can pray to, and they will help them in return. Hinduism followers also believe in reincarnation and karma. They believe that the things are actions that they perform will later affect their life here on earth and it will later follower them.  Hinduism has been known as the oldest religion that is being practiced today, besides Christianity and Islam (Jones, 2002). Hinduism comes in third place when it comes to religion. The people that are practicing Hindu mostly live in India.Many people do not understand what Hinduism really is. To many people it can be quite confusing and misunderstanding. Hinduism is a religion that can be thought of as very open –minded when compared to other religions of faiths that are being practiced in today’s society.  Most Hindus are the followers of the gods Shiva, Vishnu, or Shakiti. These are the gods that most people believe in. The deity Vishnu has been known to sustain the universe, Shiva has been known to bring an end in the act of something that is being destroyed, and Shakiti is the female representation of divinity (World Book, 1984).  The Hindus can be recognized by the way they dress from other Indians because of the way that one may dress. Most Hindu men would probably wear large turbans and most women would wrap themselves in long bands of cloth called saris.
