Organizational Assessment
The mission of the organization is to provide various milk and coffee products throughout Italy as well as other European countries by offering products as a house brand with traditional qualities to independent coffee houses as well as other chains in the area to make Nestle an international beverage. The company was founded in 1866 in Switzerland to process dairy products. Initially they became known as a manufacturer of infant feeding formulas, developing such products as Nestle Powdered Milk and Condensed Milk. The company grew through new product introductions and acquisitions of other companies, both inside and outside the food industry.
Present Goals of Organization
Nestlé had its humble beginnings with the vision of Swiss chemist, Henri Nestlé. During the time of the company’s creation there was a high infant mortality in Europe due to malnutrition. Nestlé dedicated himself to experimenting with nutritious food supplements to overcome the problem. In 1867, he was approached to help an ailing premature infant who was unable to accept his mother's milk or any of the conventional substitutes. The infant began to take the milk food supplement he had developed, and a life was saved. The life-saving product was called Farine Lactée Nestlé, and was soon marketed throughout much of Europe, and the launch of the new brand began to take on a life of its own.
