Harrison-Keyes is in the middle of an unusual dilemma, the company in which they have outsourced their work in digitizing the normal published works into digital works has thrown the project to a complete standstill. Improper planning, low morale amongst employees and a natural disaster is sending this project over budget and close to the deadline.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
The Harrison-Keyes Company was riddled with issues from the employees to upper management. Taking these issues into consideration could ultimately allow the company to be ranked in the top three of financial companies.
“We are all creatures of habit. It generally is difficult for people to try new ways of doing things. It is precisely because of this basic human characteristic that most employees do not have enthusiasm for change in the workplace.” (Kreitner and Kinicki, 2004) According to Mary Smith, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, “I think I’m getting an employee a day coming over to Human Resources to complain about the general confusion about job functions or the possibility of layoffs. Fear, uncertainty and doubt are ruling the way”.
Of course, as humans the thought to naturally resist change because of the fear of failing- Intimidating changes on the job can cause employees to doubt their capabilities. Self-doubt erodes self-confidence and cripples personal growth and development (Kreitner and Kinicki, 2004).
