I feel like buying a BMW 7 Series
The Occasional that talks sense... most of the time

Last week was the kind of week that made you feel young. It made me feel like rushing out and
buying the new BMW 7 Series, now that that BMW’s Prince of Abominable Design, Chris Bangle is
no longer with the company. God, what rubbish design he churned out last few years…imagine
having a car with a boot lid exactly like the lid on the trunk you were packed off to boarding school
in, every year. So it’s a huge relief for the budding BMW-owner in me that I no longer have to break
out into tears at the traffic lights each time I spotted some stupid, sod sitting arrogantly in the
Ultimate Driving Trunk called the 7 Series. (I really do think I am safe panning the 7 Series, since I
seriously doubt any 7 Series owner reads such low-brow stuff…and even if any reader does own one,
it is equally likely he/she will be considering selling the sorry thing off, to meet margin calls incurred
after Tim Geithner’s underwhelming speech).
In fact, last week was the kind of week that made me feel like redecorating my office and buying that
$1400 waste paper bin that I always wanted to own. Heck, it even made me feel like buying a jet.
And the good vibes from the markets were so infectious that my staff came and demanded that we
pay out our 2010 bonuses now. The reason for all this cheer was the rally in the global markets. The
S&P500 rallied 5.17% last week, and has put on 8.03% since January 20, 2009. The NASDAQ
Composite has done well as well. Emerging Markets like Brazil have been standout performers,
while China Shanghai and H-share Index ha ...
