International Business Opportunities
The export sector of the Philippines is surely affected with the current financial market crisis and recession happening all over the world. It is predicted that the United States and other countries will be forced to cut down their importation by next year hence Filipino exporters would have to tighten their belts in order to survive. But though it seems that the export industry is going through dark fallout, Dr. Celen Perlada, the representative of Department of Trade and Industry delivered a lecture about business opportunities in the international market place given today’s economic situation. His talk gave hope to students like us who in a year or so would like to or probably venture into international business or export.
According to Dr. Perlada, there are still opportunities even if there is a global recession. One just needs to be open minded and immersed in the situation, preferences and needs of a particular country that we will export to. For example in the country Botswana, is there anything that could be sold over there? Something that would meet the needs of the Botsawana nation? I was amazed by the fact that this country that is so far from us could actually find in our country some important product and that is our ever-famous Virgin Coconut Oil. Apparently VCO have an anti-viral effect and can beneficially reduce the viral load of HIV patients. The high content of Lauric acid in coconut oil can actually prolong the lives of AIDS patients. This indeed proves that there is something important that we can offer to the world! If we can serve the Botswana nation, we could possibly serve other countries as well.
