Everyday ethical crossroads are met by individuals, businesses, and governments, but who is to say that a decision that is made is ethical or unethical?  According to Webster’s New World Pocket Dictionary, Fourth Edition, the word ethics is described as a “system of morals”, and the world moral is described as “of or dealing with right or wrong, good; virtuous, moral rules or standards”.  Ethics are in fact, based upon the culture and society in general lives in.  Ethics are the basis of what society views as right and wrong, and for individuals it comes from their own personal values.  Ethics in society help keep the peace and guide the society and help its individuals to make sound and moral decisions.  Ethics in the workplace creates the environment in which the business is conducted and must be based on a strong ethical foundation.  Therefore, ethics affect all areas of our personal and professional lives, becoming increasingly important to how the employees are treated, businesses are run, and how unethical behaviors can have both moral and immoral outcomes.

Ethics in general can stir up both positive and negative feelings in people and rightfully so.  Everyone has experienced ethical dilemmas in his or her life and has felt the effects of positive and negative outcome.  In a positive outcome usually the dilemma is solved in a manner that it positive for all parties involved as the right decision was made.  Who chooses who is right and who is wrong; generally the ethical standard is set by our surroundings and influenced by our culture and society.  In an ethical dilemma with a negative outcome, one party takes advantage of another party for his or her own personal gain regardless of the ...
