Ford

When people are asked to name an American auto-company, one of the first that come to
mind is Ford. While American made cars are not as popular as foreign made cars, Ford has
remained one of the top producers of automobiles since the early 1900's. And the reason for this is
simple, Ford produces quality cars. For example, one of the best known cars that Ford has produced
is the Ford Mustang, which many people know to be one of the best American "muscle" cars around.
Recently, Ford has been going through a rough spot as Toyota and DaimlerChrysler have both had a
greater sales year. But Ford is determined to remain strong, as it has for a hundred years.
    Ford was created by a man named Henry Ford in 1903. Ford has first started out as a farmer
but his skills with mechanics landed him a job as an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company.
Once Ford became chief engineer, he began working on making his dreams a reality. His experiments
with the car became more and more stable, which did not go unnoticed. In 1903, along with eleven other
investors, Ford started his own automobile company. His company became very successful for a variety
of reasons, one of which was the assembly line. The assembly line was an innovative way to manufacture
products. Instead of having specialists build the whole product themselves, workers were assigned to
specific parts of the product. While this work tended to be very tedious, it meant that anyone
could do it, not just educated engineers. This meant that cars could be made quickly and cheaply,
