Running Head: FMC GREEN RIVER EMPLOYEES MOTIVATION FMC Green River Employees Motivation Unit 2 Individual Project Part BUS322 November 21th, 2008 For the topic this week on FMC Green River, I will analyze the job design, goal setting, and performance appraisal, pay and career development of the company while under the management of Mr. Kenneth Dailey. I will also talk briefly about the background of the company and compare its style to that of FMC Aberdeen, with first clarifying that there are notable differences between the two businesses and therefore they could never function or be managed in the same way. Employee’s motivation is an essential part of a company and a big focus on this week assignment. I will talk about the meaning of motivation, benefits and implications for a company if their employees are not properly motivated. FMC Aberdeen is a new facility, which opened its doors 5 years ago. A single plantspecializes on defense weapons with 100 employees and serving one customer. Aberdeen management approach includes a sustained increase in productivity while reducing costs, Job satisfaction and organizational commitment, which are key factors for the success of any company. Even though Aberdeen is smaller than Green River in all aspects, their management style is one to admire. The level of employees’ motivation at Aberdeen is reflected on how well the company continues to operate. Employees have five levels of needs that include physiological, safety, social, ego, and self- actualizing. (Maslow, 1943). According to Maslow, lower level needs had to be satisfied before the next level need would motivate employees.
