File Management Summary

In today’s world, file management is as important as ever when it comes to your computer.  Every time you access your computer, new files are steadily piling up behind the scenes.  You probably wont even notice these files until you go back to find that business document you saved two weeks ago.  That’s where smart file management comes in and helps through a few different arrears.

    The first thing you can do to get started with smart file management is to make new folders on your computers hard drive.  You should name the folders appropriately by the files that are contained in them.  You can go about this in two ways.  First, you could create a new folder for every single type of document, separating your word files from your excel ones.  Or, you could create a folder for every type of content you have, keeping your word documents for school separate from the word documents you have for work.

      Remember to use your computer to the fullest when trying to manage your files.  There is no limit to the number of folders you can make and also remember to that you can put folders inside of each other. Also, because windows will allow you to use a lot of words when you name your folders, be specific as possible.  If you have multiple versions of the same files, start numbering them.

      The next and most important thing when managing files is to put the files where they belong.  Use the save as dialogue box when you go to save a file to change where the file is stored.  You can chose anywhere on your hard drive you want to put the file, like the folders you made before.
