Expatriate Management Training

My topic today is about strategy and change. The main points I will be covering today from chapter 3 of our textbooks is defining strategy, the importance of strategic thinking and the affects of culture on the actions and behaviours of the people in the organisation to the strategy  
First of all what is strategy
 Henry Mintzberg brought us the 5 Ps of strategy  
•    Plan:     Consciously intended course of action.     
•    Ploy:    Specific manoeuvre to outwit opponents. Using tactics to out manoeuvre     competition  
•    Pattern:  is a stream of actions or routines that presents  a strategy, can be both planned and unplanned.
•    Position: the position of the organisation relative to its environment , creating a market niche.  Exploiting core capabilities that will differentiate the organisation from its competitors
•    Perspective: organisation’s shared mindset. The values and beliefs that sum up the organisations overall actions and behaviour. Culture plays a big role  
The overall strategy of the organisation should involve parts of all of the above
Strategic Thinking VS Strategic Planning
Strategic planning concern analysis and  is the traditional way of doing things,
•    Formalising systems and procedures
•    Senior Management dominant
•    Building long term defensible positions and sustainable advantage.
