Ethical Perspective Paper

    People, places, and things are real. Only one of these three noted items has what is known as behavioral traits coupled with a thought process: people. People are classified as human beings and have the ability to make decisions, rationalize. The decision making process varies in usage from person to person. According to Ten3 Business 3-Coach, “ The classic approach to decision making is: 1) define the object, 2) collect relevant information, 3) generate feasible options, 4) make the decision, and 5) implement and evaluate. (Ten3 Business e-coach, 2008).” A part of the decision making process involves ethics, more to the point, the usage of ethics. Ethics are “1) the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation, 2) a set of moral principles (Webster, 2008).” Don’t confuse ethics with feelings because these two are not the same. Feelings are an emotional state and ethics are not. Feeling good or bad is not the same as doing what is right or wrong.
    In this paper I will discuss the four ethical perspectives: Character/virtue, Obligation/deontology, Results/utilitarianism, and Equity/relativism. I will conclude this paper by discussing issues that I may face in addressing ethical dilemmas at work. As a student at the University of Phoenix, I recently took the Ethical Awareness Inventory and discovered that my personal ethics perspective is Obligation.  The ‘obligation’ ethics perspective is close to describing how I am. A better way to state what I mean is to say that the Ethical Awareness Inventory is right on the mark considering how I answered the questions.
