Ethic And Coporate Governance

In the today society, people are expecting each other to act not only within the law but also expecting how a person is doing things ethically. However, how do we define whether a person is doing things ethically or not as there are no written on how do people act ethically.
Therefore, ethical considerations are very difficult to codify and there are many ways of expressing what we would all probably understand as ethical behavior. They are all concern with highlighting societal expectations about how a organisation and individual manager should act in their dealing with others.
There are some issues that are concerned with today’s business organisation, for example, if a worker is responsible to finish a task before the due date and this task require the worker to work overtime in order to finish before the due date. However, the company will not pay overtime wages to the worker and it claims that this is not necessary to pay for the overtime as it is the worker task to be finished by due date. In this case, can we consider the company is acting ethically to the worker or not? And because the worker do not receive the overtime payment, he/she will purposely not finish the task on due date. In this situation, who is not being ethical? The company or the worker? Of course, some may say the company, on the other hand some may blame on the worker. This is an example, how the ethic is difficult to codify.
Another specific example on ethical issue is about the Nike Company hiring child labors in their South East Asia factory. Usually hiring the children with very low paid is seen as unethical but on the other hand it can also view that if they do not have a job, they and their families will face difficulties for surviving.
