1. Mean, median and mode

Mean, median and mode are ways of calculating average and we are going to calculate them from tabulated data of one of the questions used in the survey.

To describe the basic features of the data are used descriptive statistics. They provide summaries about the sample. With descriptive statistics we can describe what the data shows and they are used to present quantitative descriptions. They reduce large amount of data into a simpler summary and there is risk of distorting the original data or losing important detail. Even with limitations as these, descriptive statistics provide a powerful summary that can enable comparisons across people of other units.
To summarise the data we can use graphical (bar chart, XY chart and histogram) and numerical ( averages and standard deviation) methods.

In statistics there are three main averages which measure the location of the distribution in a different ways. They are the mean, the median and the mode.

The mean is measure that we usually refer to everyday’s life using the word average. Can be defined as the value each item would have if all the values were shared equally among all items. To find the mean we need to add up all the data and divide  the total by the number of the values in the data. The mean figure tells us how much or how many we would have in total if we were told that there were a given number of items having a specified mean value.

The median is the value of the middle item and it has an obvious claim to be an average. It is very useful statistical measure. To find the median we need to put the values in order and find the middle value. In case of two values in the middle we find the mean of these two. The median is not much affected by outliers ...
