Afghanistan is awarded of Best Excellence Display at IITF 2008

Afghanistan Investment Support Agency with the support of USAID-ASMED participated at the 28th India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan in Delhi one of Asia's largest trade expositions organized by India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) from 14th -27th Nov 2008.

Among the participation of 38 foreign countries Afghanistan was awarded the second award for Excellence in Display at IITF and entitled as the most popular pavilion of 28th IITF.

Mr. Shri Jairam Ramesh, Indian Minister of State for Commerce and Power presented the award to Mr. Walid Tamim, Director of Investment Promotion of AISA during an official ceremony. Mr. Ramesh said: “I was so glad to know about the popularity of Afghan Pavilion at 28th IITF and that is a very interesting news” he continued, “in fact there will be tremendous increase of trade and business among Afghanistan and India since Afghanistan, Pakistan and India as the members of SAARC and SAFTA must take the utmost advantages and privileges”. Mr. Ramesh felt a commercial alliance of Pakistan, Afghanistan and India would lead to a faster growth in the region.

Mr. Ramesh presented the awards in different categories. In the foreign pavilions category, Pakistan received the gold medal, while the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan won the silver medal. South Africa won the Special Jury Award.

7000 companies from all over the world had participated at the 28 IITF, AISA received around one million visitors in two weeks time. the Afghan pavilion with a mark of traditional carpets, dried fruits, Kandahari pomegranates, Afghan saffron, handicrafts and other agri products become a major attraction for visitors.
