With the globalization of the business environment and many companies outsourcing to other countries outside their domestic borders and those organizations encountering the diversity of many different cultures, business will have to have the flexibility and proactive leadership to withstand change. Reardon, Reardon & Rowe state, ” Experts agree that successful leaders must be flexible and capable of adapting to new conditions, open to novel alternatives, and willing to take greater risks.” (Kotter, 1990; O’Toole, 1996)
In the simulation Building a Culture for Sustaining Change, senior management at CrysTel, knowing that the organizations will be facing many changes in the future due to the fast pace at which new technological advances were being introduced to the telecommunications market, that in order for the organization to survive in such an evolutionary market they too had to evolve or they would end up extinct. (UOP, 2004) Kreitner & Kinicki (2004) stated, “Companies no longer have a choice—they must change to survive.” (p. 672).
CrysTel is a telecommunications company operating in Illinois with employee strength of 2500 and annual revenues of $200 million. The organizations current product profile includes data cables, wireless solutions and network development. Since CrysTel was founded, the organization has undergone constant change and recently has encountered frequent technological advancements and has plans to diversify the product profile to provide copper interconnectivity besides CDMA and GPRS.
