Critical Thinking


    Critical thinking is an art form that can be developed if the subject is willing. It requires some thinking on the part of the person whom is a student of critical thinking. This paper will define critical thinking, give some examples of life without critical thinking, an example of the authors own critical thinking, and suggest a few problems with critical thinking.
Critical thinking is the art of thinking about thinking while thinking in order to make thinking better. It involves three interwoven phases: it analyzes thinking, it evaluates thinking, it improves thinking. (Paul, Eldner, 2006) Critical thinking as a description could be summed up by stating that Critical thinking is a purposeful and deliberate manner in which one uses his or her own thinking power to arrive at a solution that is unimpeded by distractions of the mind and stays on task. Critical thinking is a process that without the ability to communicate the conclusions of thinking would be of limited use and irreverent.
    Life without thinking would be unchallenging and blunt. Just think, how would life be if critical thinking stopped at the eight tracks, or even the cassette tape? Life would not be as interesting without the abilities of some people who think and invent new technologies. Think for a minute about what our palates would be experiencing if someone had not thought about the next restaurant. The same menu, day in, day out most likely would result from life without thinking. What if alcohol was not experimented with? Would there be only wine to drink?
