Concepts Of Management

For the phase III individual assignment I am planning on opening up a sporting goods store in the town that I was born. I have lived in this town all of my life and have watched this small thriving community grow into an exciting and suburban city. I have grown with it as well and I am really looking forward to creating a business and helping my city flourish. In the past, I have watched sporting goods stores come and go in this city because I believe they are not run correctly and the owners and management do not have fresh ideas to keep the business thriving. I am excited about my endeavor and have high hopes for my creation to become a success.
The first thing I need to do is to list the actions I need to complete for the functions of management. There are four functions of management that I will need to give careful consideration to are; planning, organizing, directing and finally, controlling. All of these management tools are extremely important because they will help in the problem solving that will affect the business.  My management team will need to be well schooled in the generic aspects of these functions then later we can refine the functions that will suit this type of business. “The intended result is the use of an organization's resources in a way that accomplishes its mission and objectives.” (Higgins, J.1994).
In the beginning planning stages we will first need to define what the businesses goals and objectives are. Along with that step we should be able to determine how all of our ideas will be accomplished.
