Abstract

Firms are increasingly merging and acquiring companies to strengthen and maintain their position in the marketplace. Companies use these methods to expand into new markets and incorporate new technologies. In order to succeed, firms need to address systematically a variety of human resource issues. The purpose of the paper is to identify a successful strategy to address the issues arising from a foreign acquisition.

In the past national boarders, lack of technology and no foreign competition limited the need for foreign companies to seek expansion across national boundaries. Over the past 25 years technology and foreign competition have required companies to expand throughout the world. In this global environment, people require extreme care and each is different. Human resources must seriously consider the needs of its company’s people as they cross international boundaries. Therefore, HR strategy must be aligned with business strategy in all locations of the organization’s operations around the world.
This paper will address the global staffing strategy of InBev Brewery of Belgium acquiring Anheuser-Bush (A-B) of St. Louis, MO. The challenges facing human resources management (HRM) include cultural and regulatory factors and how these will impact Anheuser-Bush organizational effectiveness. InBev will review the recruitment and selection practices and discuss how the mix of expatriates and nationals will be determined based on skills and abilities.
