Because of the situations that I have encountered through my participation in community services, I can honestly bring myself to the conclusion that I am a better person than when I didn’t perform these activities. Community service is a great way for students to step outside of their comfort zones and reach out to the people that are less fortunate than I am. It has helped to break some of my bad habits, and it has also really helped me out spiritually. I now see that there is a purpose for everything that happens in life, even though this is hard to see sometimes. Everyone in life has a specific purpose as well, because if I hadn’t served those people at the soup kitchen then they might not have eaten that night. For all I know I could have saved a life that night, and I believe that this is the reason why we as a people are put on earth. If schools did not require service time to be done then I think there would be a lot of students that would have never found their true calling/ vocation. I found my vocation through service, working with little children forced me to really see that I love to work with people. You can’t really be fully into a situation, and be happy until you take the chance and throw yourself into an uncomfortable circumstance and see just how you waver in this sort of scenario.
When it comes to community service, sometimes it can be rewarding simply to help raise money for an organization. However, it can be far more fulfilling to establish direct relationships with members of the community that I wish to become involved with.
