What Does It Mean To Be A Christian?


    Christianity is a religion based on the teachings of Jesus. The word “Christ” means anointed one. Jesus is the anointed one from God the Father who came to this world, fulfilled the Old Testament laws, prophecies. History tells us that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead physically not just mentally. It is told Jesus Christ is divine in nature as well as human hence he has two natures and is worthy of worship and prayer.
    Christianity teaches us there is only one God in all existence and that he has made the universe, Earth and has created Adam and Eve. From the Adam and Eve story we derive the idea that everyone sins because they have sinned and therefore all their children will inherit sinful nature. Because of this reason we are all sinners and Jesus is the only way to be saved from the coming judgment and to receive salvation through faith. Christianity is best answered by our relationship with God through Jesus Christ by whom we are forgiven of our sins and escape the righteous judgment.
    Christianity believes in some sense Jesus is a form of presence of God in human form. This way of belief was unacceptable to most Jews. The covenant made between God and the Jewish people is defined by Judaism. Portion of the covenant is a set of religious beliefs, ethical rules and principles. Many Christians believe this law and the covenant were superseded by Jesus’ teachings and the community he started. It is believed that on the night Jesus died, he talked about starting a “new covenant” based on his death and resurrection. These problems are amongst the most divisive aspects of Christianity.
